Key Individuals
Zarathustra, or Zoroaster, is one of the most important and one of the only key individuals in Zoroastrianism. His teachings became the foundation of Zoroastrianism, and Zoroastrianism became one of the worlds greatest religions back then in Persia. Zarathustra was believed to be born in 628 BC somewhere in Iran and died in 551 BC. The precise date of his birth is unknown but based on texts from the Avesta he was born sometime between 1500 BC and 500 BC which is a big time frame. Just like his birth, we don't know much of where he was born or what area he grew up in. But based on the Avesta texts, it can be concluded that he lived somewhere near eastern Persia. In the Gatahs part of the Avesta, we see that Zarathustra was a priest and his father, Pourusaspa, was a Persian noble. Then, at the age of 30, Zarathustra received a revelation, experiencing a bunch of revelations and teaching from god. He tried and preach his vision and teachings that he received from god, but had no luck. Zarathustra as well made some enemies while he was preching his teaching, because his teachings didn't match up with what the Karpan, a religion at that time, priests believed in. He faced persecution and abuses from the others and decided to flee his country for his own safety. When Zarathustra was traveling Persia, he converted a ruler names Vishtaspa by miraculously healing his horse. Vishtapa made his country adopt Zoroastrianism and it gained it's popularity. After that event, many people began to follow and have Zoroastrianism as their religion. After preaching for many years and converting many people to Zoroastrianism, Zarathustra finally died at the age of 77.

King Vishtaspa was a king who played a big part in spreading Zoroastrianism just like Zarathustra. King Vishtaspa was probably one of the earlier followers of Zoroastrianism and was one of the first to be a King. Since he was a king, he ruled over a good amount of people. As Zarathustra fled from his home town in fear of persecution, he was led into King Vishtaspa's area. Zarathustra then miraculously healed Vishtaspa's horse and Vishtaspa converted to Zoroastrianism. Vishtaspa then spread the word of Zoroastrianism and Zarathustra's teachings to his area and as well as others around him. He, as well as others, were one of the main reasons why Zoroastrianism was a main religion back then.
